US Virgin Islands Travel Tips

The United States Virgin Islands (USVI) are a chain of islands situated in the Caribbean Sea to the east of Puerto Rico. The small islands geographically belong to the Virgin Island archipelago. The United States Virgin Islands consist of three main islands including Saint John, Saint Croix and Saint Thomas as well as many more smaller islands.

The United States Virgin Islands were first inhabited by Arawaks, Ciboney and Carib people. The islands were so named by Christopher Columbus who discovered the Virgin Islands in 1493. Until the 17th century, the islands were under the control of France, Denmark, the Netherlands, Spain and the United Kingdom. After the second World War, the United States purchased half of the Virgin Islands from Denmark.
